What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a laser procedure that reshapes the cornea – the clear front surface of the eye – so that light focuses more accurately on the retina. It is used to correct common vision errors and can help eligible patients reduce their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
Conditions LASIK can correct
- Myopia (short-sightedness)
- Hyperopia (long-sightedness)
- Astigmatism
Are you a suitable candidate?
Not every patient is a suitable candidate for LASIK. A detailed eye examination is essential and typically assesses:
- Corneal thickness and shape
- Stability of your spectacle power
- Overall eye health, including dry eye
- Age and general health factors
If LASIK is not the right fit, other refractive procedures may be considered.
What to expect
The procedure itself is performed under numbing eye drops and usually takes only a few minutes per eye. Dr. Kapur will explain the preparation, recovery period and follow-up schedule during your consultation.
